Some old stuff

Posted: September 24, 2010 in Design project

So I thought I would follow up my apology with some examples of work I did prior to my attempt at a design a day blog. Although the experiment failed I still feel inclined to share my work. So today I have a mock piece for the journal I worked for. So check it on the following link. I only have a pdf of the copy.

BP Cover

My BP Cover

This piece is not the final draft that went to print because I figure if you want to see that one then you can buy a copy of the journal (here’s the dedicated site).  I also cropped a little off the bottom, because I haven’t spoken with anybody else about using this so I figure if it’s not a full image there’s no harm.. All it’s missing is the name of the journal but you can see that on the spine. This was pretty close to the final concept that we were going for.

I really enjoyed working fort he journal and you should check it out because it really is a good publication which is quite difficult  because every issue is done with an almost entirely new group of students.

Alright that’s enough for one day. I will try and be back soon with some more of my work over the past couple years and maybe some entirely new stuff.

Please don’t be shy about comments. I would love to know what you think.

Not What I Expected

Posted: September 24, 2010 in Design project

So I know there aren’t a lot of people that visit his blog, but to those of you who do see it from time to time I want to thank you very much for the support.

I was hoping that this blog would be a place to expand my ideas and get better as a designer. I definitely think that happened but unfortunately life got a little in my way.

I don’t plan on abandoning the site but you might see some changes as I start getting involved in new areas of my life.

I hope you like it and I will do my best to be informative and give some good material back to the internet for all the inspiration it’s brought me.

From work

Posted: March 31, 2010 in Design project

Hello all. I am posting this from a computer at work, hence the title. I am sorry about my recent extended absence. I have been in a rather unproductive mood lately. I should not slack so, but it has been so nice lately and my work schedule is so late I have hardly been in the mood to sit down and design.

Anyway I hope all is well in the blogosphere. I promise I will work on a project this week and post something before I leave for the weekend for yet another three days with no interwebs.

thanks for dropping by and I’ll see you all real soon.

Sorry I’m lazy

Posted: March 23, 2010 in Design project

Hey all I’m so sorry I’ve been so lazy. New work schedule and some fun adjustments to my routine. I’ll be getting back soon and I am going to be trying my hand at making a movie poster from stills. We’ll see how it all goes.
Thanks for coming by.

Peace

Cosmic thought!

Posted: March 19, 2010 in Design project

So I know this is already heavily public knowledge but. . .  I decided that in memory of the earth’s previous rotational velocity I would make a little piece of nostalgic quick art. I was also kind of bored and not looking for a totally good looking pic. I just wanted my own piece of the cosmic art circle.

There are subtle nuances here though that hint at the dread we all feel now that we are careening towards old age at almost a whole second every 6 million years. Wait that’s not it at all.

Mostly I just think the whole idea that people are so freaked out by this is just ridiculous. The earth has made changes all the time. It happens. Get over it. If some natural disaster winds up shooting us off towards a field of planetary debris then there is nothing that we can do about it.

With that said I think now is as good a time as any for a night alone, or with some friends, watching your favorite natural disaster movie. You could even make a night of it and watch two or three. I find that after watching such very specific genre’s reminds me of how much time and money the human race spends scaring themselves with their own demise. You’ll forget all about this newest micro terror of our cosmic stability and move on to the next texas sized meteor or group of Aliens saving our race from total extinction by solar flare.

Thanks all and please come back for more.

Peace

St. Patty’s Day Treat

Posted: March 17, 2010 in Design project

So I’m sorry for the extended leave of absence. I’ve had a run of bad luck lately but things are looking good.

Don’t worry the time spent was not wasted. I spent some time putting together a few pieces in preparation for the upcoming St. Patty’s Day. I’ve always been proud of my Irish lineage. I’ve done more than a little research into our family name. It’s quite an interesting back story, but I won’t get into that.

The coin design is something that I have been messing with and I’m certain you’ll see it happen more often in the stuff I post and I’ve been messing with the look of bevels and their uses. I even through one in there that is written in Gaelic. I hope you like it.

I’ll be sure to make a post thursday and hopefully I won’t have any more interruptions for a while.

I hope you have a wonderful St. Patty’s day.

Peace

Nothing today

Posted: March 14, 2010 in Design project

I’m sorry all for not keeping to this perfectly, but unfortunately I was not able to work on a project today. Sadly some minor tragedy struck my house. Our basement was overrun by the City of Muncie’s drainage. We had about 3 -5 inches at the highest places and I was forced to trudge through some really disgusting mud to salvage my band equipment.

I will probably be cleaning a lot of it up tomorrow and monday so my posts might be sparse but I’m working on a little something for St. Patty’s Day. I love my Irish roots and want to incorporate some of that into my next couple of posts.

So thanks for coming by. I’ll try and make it up to you on your next visit.

DAY 8: Lamp

Posted: March 13, 2010 in Design project

Told you my lamp is awesome

So yeah it’s after midnight but I did finally get something done. Here’s a lamp picture that I took at a local park. I wanted to play some more with light treatments and flare to make an exploding light or something like it.

I still need to work on making the cracks and stuff more pronounced. If anybody knows of a good way to make that happen let me know.

The photo itself was a pretty bland start. I think I need to work some more on the environments and not so much on specific elements. I’ll see if I can work on that for tomorrow. Or maybe Sunday.

Anyway I’ve  got some sleep that’s calling to me so enjoy and please come back for more.

DAY 7(ish): Tree Hugger

Lamps

No Seriously my lamp is awesome!

My sincere apologies to anybody who stopped by yesterday to no post. I was surprised last night by my brother who came to visit me from Tennessee. So I think that’s a legit reason to take a break.

Anyway about today’s post.

I was looking at the post I made with the wood burning and in the similar links page there was a link to another type of bark type treatment. I just couldn’t help myself so I tried it out. This is what I come up with. The reference is corny but hey it’s my project.

Anyway I hope you all like it and maybe it will encourage you to go out and enjoy a stroll through a tree filled park or build a tree for or something. Anyway enjoy the beginnings of spring and come back tomorrow. I will be posting.

Peace

(Disclaimer: No actual trees were injured in the making of this post.)

Day 6: Cartoon Esplosion

Posted: March 9, 2010 in Design project
Cartoon Esplosion here

Cartoons esplode and make pretty colors

So here’s the second in my  exploration of the beauty of explosions. I never realized how hard it is to make a good cartoon explosion until just now. It’s not a difficult task but getting exactly what you’re looking for is mostly trial and error.

I got the ide from Pixel Perfect and it’s a fantastic look. I made a few adjustments to make it look the way I was looking for. With that in mind please enjoy and I hope you spend the next couple of days inspired to watch anime or reruns of xmen or something.

Hurray this is before midnight

Peace
